THE bosman twins

LIVE PERFORMANCE BY
THE bosman twins
Coming soon!
Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, Dwayne, and Dwight were immersed in the captivating world of jazz from a young age. Their passion for this genre was ignited by the melodic tunes of legendary jazz artists such as Earl “Fatha” Hines, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and their father Lloyd Smith, who was not only a successful businessman but also a talented musician who played alongside Basie and Ellington. The twins’ mother, Paula V. Smith, added to their musical upbringing as she herself was a devoted jazz enthusiast and became the first African American Administrator of the Wage and Hour Division for the U.S. Department of Labor during the Regan Administration.
As the brothers continued to grow, their musical influences expanded beyond their family circle. Since their parents enjoyed close relationships with renowned musicians like Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, Oliver Nelson, and Charlie Parker, being surrounded by jazz royalty as a young age further fueled their love for jazz. By the time they reached the age of 14, Dwayne and Dwight had already embarked on their professional music careers, performing together as The Bosman Twins. Throughout their journey, The Bosman Twins have had the privilege of sharing the stage with iconic figures in the entertainment industry, including Freddie Cole, Branford Marsalis, Fontella Bass, Roy Ayers, David Peaston, and the late trumpeter, Lester Bowie. To complement their performances, the twins are accompanied by a talented three- or four-piece rhythm section comprised of some of the most accomplished touring musicians in the international jazz scene.
Whether they are showcasing their own band, currently enjoying a monthly residency at Winter’s Jazz Club Chicago, and touring and collaborating with other esteemed jazz professionals, The Bosman Twins have garnered widespread respect and recognition for their distinctive style and interpretations of jazz, rhythm and blues, funk, and gospel. Their musical prowess has earned them both national and international acclaim, solidifying their position as influential figures in the world of jazz.
The Bosman Twins, authored by Dwayne, are recipients of the “Harmon How to Listen” and the Missouri Folk Art grants, have embarked on a journey across the nation as music directors and advocates for youth music education. Their unwavering dedication to urban youth is evident through their establishment and execution of jazz workshops, seminars, and classical music programs. By fostering an environment that encourages personal growth and talent exploration, The Bosman Twins encourage students to appreciate and respect the abilities of others. Moreover, they impart the importance of maintaining high self-esteem and striving for excellence in their musical pursuits. Dwayne is the retired Music Director at Crossroads College Preparatory School in St. Louis, and Dwight, retired from St. Louis Public School District as Band Director and Music Educator with over 30 years of experience. As Jazz Ambassadors, The Bosman Twins continue to impact the music songbook of jazz.
The Bosman Twins are filled with immense pride and gratitude for the numerous awards and recognitions they have received throughout their career. Their passion for music has allowed them to share their incredible talent with audiences all over the world. One highlight was on Saturday, September 12, 2021, when The Bosman Twins were bestowed with the prestigious “Legends Award” from The Kranzberg Foundation during the inaugural Music at The Intersection Heritage Festival, in recognition of their remarkable contributions to the St. Louis music scene. Their success continued as they were honored with three more distinguished awards, including the esteemed Excellence in the Arts from the St. Louis Arts and Education Council in January 2016.
The Danny Davis Jr Project

Live Performance by
The Danny Davis Jr Project
Returning SoON!
The Danny Davis Jr Project is a contemporary jazz band performing their unique fusion of Jazz, World Music and Latin Music. Their roots are traced back to 2016 by the band’s founder Danny Davis Jr. and protégé of the Grammy Award winning guitarist Norman Brown. Their sound is very ‘song oriented’, as opposed to traditional jazz where each member of the band has endless solos. Their sound is reminiscent of Fourplay, Larry Carlton, Al Di Meola and of course, Norman Brown. They will also take a walk outside of their own material for their unique take on classic cover songs from the Beatles to Taylor Swift to Michael Jackson, all performed in their unique blended style. Rated as one of the most unique and intriguing live performance bands, they always deliver a fun and exciting brand of music with storytelling and even audience participation.
The current lineup consists of Danny Davis Jr. (electric and acoustic guitars), Tim Amann (keys), Larry Tokarsky (drums), Bill Skiba (vocals and percussion), and Sally Osborn (bass and classical guitar).
Taking their cues from the more popular contemporary jazz artists such as Norman Brown, Larry Carlton, Marcus Miller, and others. It’s jazz, it’s R&B, it’s funk, it’s pop. Some songs are new and fresh originals while others you will undoubtedly recognize but done in a masterful new and uniquely Cindicate way.
the Cindicate is definitely NOT your father’s traditional jazz quintet.

NexLevel

Live Performance by
NexLevel
Mar 22 (Saturday)
MaY 24 (Saturday)
In 2000, Columbus, Ohio based guitarist Mark Jackson and Keyboardist Jesse Thompson were asked to play at his nephew’s wedding—a gathering that gave rise to one of the city’s most popular and eclectic jazz fusion bands. When the person printing the wedding program needed a band name, Jackson came up with the clever moniker NexLevel—so that, as Jackson recalls, “When people say it, it sounds good, tells everyone who we are and catapults us where we want to go”.
The group quickly established itself as a popular gigging ensemble and began playing many local festivals and performing with top R&B and urban jazz artist who came through town, in addition to touring with performers like soul singer Conya Doss. They also released their smooth jazz oriented debut album Level One in 2004. When the band’s saxophonist Randolph left shortly thereafter, the remaining ensemble (including bassist Anthony Mackey) chose a completely different route, exploring an eclectic soul jazz fusion route that kept their powerful grooves and melodies strong while increasing the sonic textures, improvisations, rock guitar and funky bass elements—very much influenced by the groundbreaking 70’s work of George Duke and bands like Mahavishnu Orchestra, but with a contemporary urban twist like the jazz/funk trio Soulive.
NexLevel’s new full-length album Midnight Blue—which features drummer Chris Wright-is the culmination of the vibe NexLevel has been developing these past few years.“We like to think of this group as an amalgamation of different styles that we love”, says Jackson, who like the others has a foundational background playing music in church. “For a while after Richard left, I tried to approximate his sax with my guitar so that the urban jazz audiences would continue to embrace us and we could get the same gigs, but eventually we embraced change and developed a unique sound outside the box that was distinctive from the way we started.
We’re having a lot of fun now, making music that’s soulful and high energy, but very mixed from track to track. Each tune puts the listener in a very different environment, but the power of emotion ties them all together.”
